Free RAW Milk- Last week I started a conversation around RAW milk and showed test results where raw milk is very similar to a human mother’s milk and contrasted it to current pasteurized milk that has none of the active ingredients found in human milk.
I then asked folks two questions:

  1. 1. Is raw milk something you would be interested in for your family?
  2. 2. Would you like to receive communications about what we are doing and how you can help effect change?

The response was overwhelming. More than 35 people responded. I’m especially interested in the second question because consumer involvement is critical to affect change.
Key to success based on prior victories in other states include (but not limited to):

  1. 1. A strong political advocate(s) – meaning politician
  2. 2. Steering committee (will take work)
  3. 3. Associations like Weston A. Price, Farm to Consumer Legal Defense Fund, Food Freedom Alliance, etc. They have research and experience.
  4. 4. A contact your representative/senator campaign asking them to support raw milk because….
  5. 5. Consumers willing to testify and advocate for raw milk before legislative committees. Any bill will have to pass a committee as first hurdle.
  6. 6. Consumers (a lot) who will travel to the state capital the day the bill will be voted on. Your representatives must know there are significant number of citizens who want access to raw milk.

Understand, currently most of the politicians do not hear from the folks they were hired to represent. Who they hear from are corporation lobbyists, lawyers, associations (Cattleman, Poultry, Seed Growers, etc.) and land grant colleges.

And, from what I have heard, most politicians are tightly tied to these groups.

That brings me to the next topic!

Election Impact on Food & Health -
Wednesday & Thursday my phone and email was afire with folks sharing news about Salatin and the USDA now that Trump was reelected President and RFK being able to take a leading role in “Making America Healthy Again.”

Wednesday morning I awoke to an email from Joel titled “CELEBRATION”.

Joel-Celebration.jpg

You know, it is always best to get your information “first hand” from the actual author these days vs. what someone else says that someone says (with their bias attached of course). So, Joel starts his musing as follows. Read the full article here.

“The deplorables and garbage people won again. Can you believe it?

I've been contacted by the Trump transition team to hold some sort of position within the USDA and have accepted one of the six "Advisor to the Secretary" spots. My favorite congressman, Thomas Massie from Kentucky, has agreed to go in as Secretary of Agriculture.

He's been the sponsor of the PRIME ACT, which, if pushed through, would be the biggest shot across the bow of the entrenched industrial meat processing system we've seen in a century. Let liberty ring. Wouldn't that be a change of fortune for Big Ag?”

Another person I have “heard” may play a role is John Klar, author of Small Farm Republic. Interestingly, Joel wrote the Forward to John’s book which could certainly offer insight into each person’s position. One thing is for sure, both support whole regenerative food grown on small family farms as the backbone to improving the physical health and economic health of our Country. AMEN!!!

A couple of quotes from John & Joel:
“Food liberty is necessary for any liberty at all.”
“You don’t have to agree with every point of the sermon to appreciate the message. Wrestling toward truth is always worthwhile, and I challenge everyone to do that with Small Farm Republic.”

Update: Raw Milk | Wintering Our Chickens

Raw Milk – So, work has been done that will help our efforts be successful when trying to influence politicians to support Food Freedom, i.e. where small farms can raise and sell into commerce and consumers have the freedom to choose who they buy from. Last week I had an hour conversation with the Director of the TX based Farm & Ranch Freedom Alliance. They were helpful in Louisiana changing their laws to support raw milk. It was very clear that it requires knowing the current law(s) and what the end game needs to be. And, sometimes change comes by winning a battle at a time to accomplish the final solution.

Beef & Egg Pricing Updates

Beef Pricing – I wanted to take a moment to highlight my research on what the beef market is doing and what 2025 pricing could look like. First, Live Cattle Futures have been trading in a very tight horizontal range for at least the past two months with the upper limit in the $191.50 per pound area. December 31st price broke out ABOVE the prior top, came down and retested the breakout level, and then by January 3rd hit a new high just over $196 per pound live weight.

NEW Ocean Springs Pickup Location | Bacon, Bacon, Bacon

"NEW" Ocean Springs Pickup Location – During our December delivery a representative of the property owner stopped to say we could no longer use their location to meet customers. I queried our December customers and received several suggestions. The recommendation we decided on was the Park & Ride lot located in the SW intersection of I-10 and Hwy 609 (Washington Ave.). This is next door to Denny's. Here is a link to the updated details including a map showing where to meet us beginning January 4th. In many ways this location is much better than the Ace parking lot. I know for us it will be nice not to have the traffic on Hwy 90 especially when there are events scheduled in downtown OS.
