Health vs. Economics is THE Battle -
or maybe health vs. priorities of the general public when you consider that in 2024 the Apple App Store generated $1.3 trillion in sales!!!

Vicki, a repeat customer from the MS Gulf Coast, sent me a short 3 minute video from a Joe Rogan Podcast with RFK Jr. discussing pig farms in North Carolina and how the CAFO pig operations got started. NOTE that the big companies own the pigs – the farmers only own the debt and do the work (and take all the risk).

Please watch the video here.

Monday morning I took this picture of a group of our pigs. It was mid morning when I found them and they were sound asleep. They slowly woke up and came up to “check me out”.

When you buy from a local farmer you get to ask questions (frankly farmers should be telling folks without them asking) about how the animals are raised and what do they eat (because you eat what your food eats whether it be plants, meat, or eggs).

Raw Milk Herdshare Buying Opportunity in Florence - I am so glad to be able to share this opportunity within our farm community.

Jennifer is a fellow Air Force Veteran with the MS Air National Guard in Jackson. She started her farm after leaving the AF due to the vaccine mandate and has been a shining example of how to start, operate, and grow a Herdshare Program. Additionally, she is a strong advocate for raw milk and knows the benefits of raw milk vs. pasteurized milk for families.

The 1st KEY to healthy raw milk is cows raised on pasture vs. a confined animal feeding operation (CAFO is what actually started the whole reason for pasterization in the first place).

2nd Key is a clean and sanitary milking operation.

Lastly, a Spotless packaging area where the milk can be cooled down quickly!

Jennifer says, “Our herd of mostly Jersey cows is located in Florence. This is our family’s fourth year successfully running a herdshare which provides rich, nutrient dense raw cows milk for our community and surrounding cities. Our raw milk has many medicinal properties, with multiple testimonies from current members, as well as boasts numerous components that pasteurized milk cannot provide. At Mountain Creek Ranch we feed non GMO, no corn, and no soy ever and practice regenerative agriculture by rotating our girls frequently to rested, replenished pasture. We do not use vaccines, hormones, or antibiotics and always defer to holistic practices as first choice.”

Now, imagine the difference in peoples health if that $1.3 trillion paid for apps was spent on healhy food from small local farms like Jennifer's where the money stays in the local economy vs. Wall Street or some foreign country!

At Nature's Gourmet Farm, our intent is to create a community that evolves around one of the most intrinsically important things of the ages, and that’s the provision of sustenance. That's our passion - to raise healthy food to nourish families and strengthen immune systems.

"Pasture Raised" Defined

The USDA has officially updated the definition of “pasture-raised” to require that animals spend the majority of their lives on rooted, vegetative pasture, distinguishing it from “free-range,” which only mandates outdoor access. This update became effective March 2025. Here at Nature’s Gourmet Farm that is how we raise our animals – whether it be cows, pigs, meat chickens, egg layers, or turkeys. Pasture raised is our management choice and reflects our stewardship ethos. Frankly, pasture raised is how God created them to be versus. in a Confined Animal Feeding Operation (CAFO). CAFOs represent man’s inhumane wisdom!!!

NGF Customer Speaks Out

NGF Customer Speaks Out - First, a little background. Stephen & his wife Mary Katherine have been customers of our farm for 5 years. They, along with their 3 boys, have visited our farm. We have shared many conversations about farming and how Mississippi is truly a "food desert" (on a grand scale when only 2% of the food grown in MS is actually raised in MS). I know their passion for eating healthy and supporting small farms. They know my passion to increase small farms that serve their communities nutritious food. One day at our Madison pickup Stephen and I were talking and he asked, "What can I do to help grow the number of small farms?"

MS Ag Commissioner Visits NGF

Commissioner Andy Gipson Visits NGF - Monday, Commissioner Gipson (Andy) visited our farm for the third time. First, was after he was appointed and Senator Hill and I were working to increase the poultry exemption for Mississippi. The second time was after we built the USDA poultry processing plant that Andy supported our LWT Grant which helped fund about 50% of the cost. This visit was to support Andy’s efforts to both support existing farmers as well as encourage more people to farm and help feed our citizens.
