Half Beef Orders – about 10 days ago a person from Georgia called about buying a whole beef. During the conversation I asked where they lived and why were they looking so far from home. She said I was like the 6th or 7th farm she had called. The other farms would only sell her a half beef and the earliest availability would be November or December.

Our next custom whole or half beef will be October 7th. Inventory has been added to our website for your order and deposit. You can place your order and find the cutsheet at this link.

Your order will be processed and packed about October 21-22nd and ready for pickup by October 27th.

Price will be the same as September at $6.25 per pound based on the hanging weight. We have a total of five beef for this processing so if you are interested let me encourage you to order early.

What Makes A Farmer - "Mastery requires repetitions, and repetitions require time - no shrotcuts. Weather, price, pestilence, and disease are the four horsemen of farming's apocalypse; handling your affairs successfully in their face requires time and persistence." Joel Salatin, Polyface Farm

Just after daylight Friday Jared & I (and our Vet of course) finished AI'ing our heifers. Afterwards, we traveled to Florence, MS to Mt. Creek Ranch for a Soil Health Academy event with Dr. Allen Williams. Many of the folks in attendance were in their early stages of becoming a farmer. It was such a joy to meet and visit with them throughout the day.

I have had many jobs in my life - from basic construction laborer, military service at both enlisted and officer ranks & responsibility to traveling all over the globe making deals. I can truely say none of those "jobs" were as challenging, rewarding, or fulfilling as being a direct market farmer for a community of loyal and grateful families.

So, I would like to share six points for aspiring farmers from an article by Joel Salatin that I have kept and read many times. I trust these basics will help reduce the risk of failure as well as weed out misconceptions about what it takes to Make A Farmer. You can read the complete article here.

#1 Check your motive
#2 What are you doing now?
#3 Get experience
#4 Grow everyman food
#5 Offer variety
#6 Equity in everything except land

I am so glad to see young folks especially step up and want to farm. Awareness of issues with eating processed foods means demand for real farm food - direct from your farmer - will grow and help small farms get started and thrive.

We have no desire to be big like White Oak Pastures with thousands of acres and hundreds of employees. We prefer to help & encourage a new generation of folks who aspire to Make A Farmer. With only 2% of the food consumed in Mississippi actually raised on Mississippi farms there is plenty of opportunity.

At Nature's Gourmet Farm, our intent is to create a community that evolves around one of the most intrinsically important things of the ages, and that’s the provision of sustenance. That's our passion - to raise healthy food to nourish families and strengthen immune systems.

Our Beef is always grass finished with NO grains. Additionally, our animals are free of mRNA, GMO's (chemicals), Antibiotics, and Hormones. We ethically raise them on diverse forage pastures that regenerates our soils and protects the ecosystem.

Let me encourage you to "Be The Change" our food system needs by "Voting With Your Fork" at every meal.

Farm & Market Updates

Market Update – Our farm objective is to raise nutrient dense meats without all the chemicals, vaccines, hormones, and etc. And be able to provide them to a community of families at a reasonable price. We measure success based on pounds sold verses dollars earned. Current beef prices are making that harder to accomplish as families seek options to reduce their food bills. I know we have not passed along the full impact of higher prices to our customers which means we are not making as much as before nor are we selling as much beef.
